Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor
EMDR Trained
Certified Synergetic Play Therapist
Julia Krebs-Martin, MA, LCMHC, is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina and New York. She earned her Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling from the Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology at Adelphi University, where she received comprehensive training in evidence-based and psychodynamically informed approaches to treatment.
Julia has experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families across a variety of treatment settings. Her clinical background includes inpatient psychiatric care, community mental health, outpatient therapy, and family systems work. At the core of Julia's practice is the belief that healing occurs when individuals are supported as whole people rather than as a collection of symptoms. She utilizes an integrative and client-centered approach, drawing from psychodynamic therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Child-Centered Play Therapy, Synergetic Play Therapy, addiction counseling, trauma-informed care, and other evidence-based modalities. By tailoring treatment to each client's unique needs, strengths, and goals, Julia creates a therapeutic experience that is both individualized and collaborative.
A central component of Julia's work is helping clients understand the connection between the mind, body, and nervous system. Drawing from principles of neurobiology and interpersonal neurobiology, she provides psychoeducation that helps clients make sense of their emotional experiences, behavioral patterns, and physiological responses to stress. Julia believes that understanding how the nervous system functions can reduce shame, increase self-compassion, and empower individuals to respond to challenges with greater awareness and intention. Through this lens, clients learn to recognize patterns of activation, strengthen their capacity for regulation, and develop a deeper sense of safety and connection within themselves.
Julia's therapeutic style is active, collaborative, and growth-oriented. She believes therapy should be a space for both reflection and practical change. In addition to fostering insight and self-awareness, she helps clients develop tangible, effective coping strategies that can be applied in daily life. Whether supporting emotional regulation, managing anxiety, navigating relationships, processing trauma, or adapting to life transitions, Julia works alongside clients to build practical skills that promote resilience, confidence, and lasting well-being.
Recognizing that healing often extends beyond the therapy office, Julia values a holistic and systems-based approach to care. When appropriate and with client consent, she collaborates closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, primary care providers, school personnel, and other members of a client's support team to ensure coordinated and comprehensive treatment. Through compassionate, evidence-based care, Julia strives to help clients deepen their connection to themselves, navigate life's changing tides with greater confidence, and create meaningful, sustainable change.
